The sheer magnitude of lives lost and homes uprooted will make you question why it is not making front page headlines in every country. The Syrian war that started in the year 2011 has affected 11 million people. Known to be the worst humanitarian crisis of our times, the Syrian war is on for over 4 years now. In the time you have taken to read this, many more people would have lost their lives and homes. The Paris attacks perpetrated by ISIS have made the Western world take notice and look for ways to weed out the terrorist organization. Buzzing Blogosphere – Women, Law and Nirbhaya Case

December 16, 2012 was a Black Day for India, the day when Jyoti Singh was brutally raped and left to die on the streets of Delhi. The last few days have served to gnaw at the wounds suffered by Jyoti’s family, which were just about getting better. On December 20th, the juvenile accused of the case was set free after serving his sentence of 3 years. This development has come in the midst of protests by Jyoti’s family and many others protesting against this judgment, with reports of the accused not showing any remorse making their way to newspapers. There is an increasing demand to change the laws to try juveniles as adults when it comes to serious crimes.

Jyoti Singh, aka Nirbhaya, the name whose story of bravery jolted the entire country into action and galvanized us to express our opinion, has once again come to the fore because of this judgment. Let’s take a look at what bloggers are saying about the release of the juvenile accused.

Buzzing Blogosphere – #SalmanVerdict

Since his debut in 1988, Salman Khan has been in the news almost constantly. Be it his films, the upheavals in his personal life, his string of beautiful girlfriends (none of whom were officially dating the actor), or his court cases, the spotlight has never really left Salman Khan. Neither had the spectre of the 2002 hit and run case against him, until very recently. The Bombay High Court acquitted Salman Khan on December 10th, for lack of conclusive proof that Salman was driving the car which mowed down pavement dwellers, killing one and injuring 4 persons. The verdict polarized the digital media with one side arguing that he got away because of his star stature, while others believed that he was unfairly targetted owing to his star status. Let’s see what the Blogosphere says about #SalmanVerdict.

Buzzing Blogosphere – Chennai Floods

The Chennai floods have managed to bring people together to help the victims like never before. Everyone from celebrities to corporates and common people are stretching their limits to send help and relief to Chennai. Social media is abuzz with helpline numbers, calls for help and heartening stories. But this was not the case a few days ago. Chennai has been flooded since 13th November and has been lashed by rain even before that. This ‘story’ didn’t find its place in the national conscience till it went viral on social media. But once it made the headlines, everyone came together to make sure that rescue and relief efforts reached the right places.
