Buzzing Blogosphere: World reacts to Paris attacks

The evening of 13th November, 2015 saw the city of Paris in a devastated state. A series of terror attacks hit different parts of the city killing over 132 people (and counting) and injuring hundreds. These attacks, which are being called the worst in Europe, left the locations of the attack splattered with blood and the survivors looking for their loved ones in fields of dead bodies. Some managed to escape the horror with the most heart wrenching sights in front of their eyes that will haunt them for a lifetime. We pray for the departed souls to rest in peace and we wish strength for the survivors to face life once again after the unspeakable horrors they witnessed.

Buzzing Blogosphere: A burn yet to be healed – 1984 Sikh Riots

Recently, the blood soaked 1984 anti Sikh riots completed 31 years on 1st November, a date marked in the history pages with blood, flames and tears . Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal recently gave the victims’ families enhanced compensation of 5 lakh rupees which was announced by the Centre. The date, 1st November, brought back memories of the nightmare in which this country lost 8000 Sikh men, women and children in one of the bloodiest periods of Independent India. There have been cases and judgements against some of the perpetrators of the gruesome violence against Sikhs, but we can’t say that justice has been done.

Buzzing Blogosphere: NJAC and Judicial Activism in India

Democracy, law and politics are languages that are most difficult to learn, understand and interpret. Especially in a nation so diverse, a nation that aptly (and sadly) cites a perfect example of duality, a nation that is in its 70th year of independence and yet is striving (struggling?) in all directions to live it. Last week the Apex court of the country concluded that the National Judicial Appointments Committee was ‘unconstitutional’ and impinges upon the principles of independence of the judiciary. NJAC is a step taken by the NDA government to revive the appointments and transfers of judges in High Courts and Supreme Court. The proposal is preceded by the collegium system of appointments which is set to continue after the judgement passed by SC.

We as people of the country look at the judiciary for getting justice. So anything that pertains to the judiciary has a long standing effect on the country’s ability to provide justice and fairness to its citizens. What does the Blogosphere have to say about it? Let’s find out.

Buzzing Blogosphere – The unrest of Sahitya Akademi awards

India being a democracy technically means that every citizen has the freedom of expression, but lately, this freedom has come under heavy fire from intolerant people who take it upon themselves to uphold the values of the country. This attitude has rattled many people who think that violence and coercion in the name “getting their sentiments hurt will take the country on a short cut route to doom. Foremost among them are authors, hordes of whom have returned their Sahitya Akademi Awards as protest against increasing intolerance and muzzling of voices.
