“I don’t want to go to school,” she said. “Why, what’s the matter? Your exams are nearing, so no excuses. Come on get ready,” Ria said to Pari. “But mummy,I don’t want to go, please.”

“Sorry, I am not going to listen. Get ready fast, it’s time for bus.” Pari wanted to say something. For a bright, bubbly, talented child like Pari saying not wanting to go school was worrying.

The bus came and the bus keeper smiled and lent a hand to Pari. With a crying face Pari entered the bus.
Ria bid a goodbye and hurried to finish her last chores and get ready for work. Although she was busy with her chores but Pari’s behaviour bothered her! After settling at work place, she brooded over the whole issue and felt there was something behind her reluctance. She needed to workout. She remembered the incidents in the news about issues at schools and teachers being rowdy.

She remembered the incidents in news about issues at schools of teachers being rowdy or Let me not over think, she said to herself. I need to talk to Pari, my only loving daughter. She applied for a week long leave to be with Pari and discover the reason of reluctance. Pari needed attention. She left for the day & headed towards school. She was not at peace but still was trying to be positive. She met Pari’s class teacher in recess hours.
“Madam,I’m finding Pari a bit indifferent .Any issues at school?”

“Ma’am, you are her Mother, you should know better. These days parents don’t pay much heed and then blame the school.

She was taken a back by the answer and was unable to comprehend my respond. She did not back out.I was hurt by her response. She took an appointment with the school principal. She was worried about my daughter and was hurt by the reckless attitude of the teacher. School was supposed to take care of the students. I briefed the Principal of the interaction and reluctance of  Pari back home.
“Our management will look into the matter and we shall take the needed action.” This wasn’t enough for her. She was feeling restless. She thought of the ways to handle her sweety pie.

“How was the day today, honey, enjoyed?” Ria asked taking her in her arms.

“Mamma, you don’t understand?”, said Pari. “I don’t feel safe.”

“What makes you say that? Did anyone hurt you, my child? Share with me dear.”

“His eyes and his touch scares me mom. You told me about good and bad touch. He is bad” Pari said.

Without asking anything more Ria just hugged her daughter and told her to not worry. Pari was crying and Ria comforted her, but tears welled in her eyes. Is being a girl a curse in the society? Ria thought. The recent incident of a school boy sodomised answered my query. Society has become insane.

She called her sister who was a doctor as she wanted to confirm the happenings. Medical examination was essential.

“This pervert has tried his hands, it’s a start, I should take the matters to school authorities and book the culprit. I should take help of the police and NGOs  as well.”

She decided to bring the matter in notice of the Principal and thrash the man, else he will ruin many. But, she was not over it. Only one thought haunts her till date, Why people become so inhuman? Momentary evil deeds have such lifetime impact on our minds. Why don’t they understand this? I booked the tickets to Sikkim, the land of peace and we both flew there to spend some time together. Her smiles were back and I was relieved. It isn’t easy to handle children and it is more tough for a single mother.

She was back with smiles on. It relieved her a lot and through her blog, she spread the message around.  Infringing the identity was a must. They were back to their land.

“Mumma, wake up fast, I am getting late for school.” Pari was back to normal and she heaved a sigh of relief. Happy days were here again. She promised herself to erase everything from my mind! She wanted to heal her,  she wanted to see her smile.
