Abhyuday – IIT Bombay’s Annual Social Festival

With the onset of a brand new year, IIT Bombay is all set to unveil its most popular and one of its kind of annual social festival – Abhyuday 2019 this January. Save the dates 12th and 13th of January’ to Engage, Encourage and Empower. The 6th edition of this Annual Social Festival encompasses a series of events, exhibitions, lectures, workshops, and competitions.

A man of multiple talents and even more accolades, a Padma Shri Awardee and Maharashtra Bhushan Awardee, “Abhay Bang”, highest scoring individual in the UPSC’s Civil Services “Ira Singhal”, Mr. Bezwada Wilson, motivational speaker Himeesh Madaan, and many more Celebrities and Social activist have to be confirmed yet! Abhyuday, the social body of IIT Bombay, aims to sensitize people for adopting a socially conscious outlook and takes initiatives to inspire the youth by instilling a sense of responsibility towards the society and develop a culture of participation in impact-oriented activities.In the previous editions of the festival, numerous personalities including Aamir Khan And the entire Satyameva Jayate team, Sonam Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor, Dia Mirza, Sindhutai Sapkal, Dr. Prakash Amte, and Dr. Mandakini Amte, Padmabhushan D. R. Mehta had graced the festival with their presence.

The 5th edition of this Annual Social Festival encompassed a series of events, exhibitions, lectures, workshops, and competitions. Dia Mirza, the UN Environment Goodwill Ambassador, and Prerana Langa, the CEO of YES foundation, were the primary speakers for Changemaker. Series an ideal platform for discussing the solutions to eradicate the misery of street children in India. Socio-X series featuring Medha Patkar (Human Right Activist and Founder of Narmada Bachao Andolan) and Prakash Amte (Padmashree and Mother Teresa Award winner) has been an inspiration to people who wish to pursue dreams to evolve their societies but keep holding themselves back!

Music lovers need not to keep out of the way. A musical night featuring Akriti Kakkar and the Mumbai Local Beggar cum Artist, the undiscovered band Of NGO Swaradhar didn’t take much to sync our mood to the beats! Afroz Shah (initiated Asia’s biggest Versova Beach cleanup campaign and also known as CNN Indian of the year for social justice) was felicitated at the Prakriti creating awareness about the environmental issues in Mumbai. The Women Empowerment Conclave would witness the untold journey of a woman via the Story Of her life. Do not forget to acknowledge those women NGOs who would be publicizing their artistic skills at the stalls! Being at the social festival, how can one skip the LGBTQ issue? The Rainbow Diaries Sindhutai Sapkal (or Mai, also affectionately known as welcomes the activists the “Mother of Orphans”) interacted with students to extend support to the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) community.
