Thank you for your comments!

I agree with what has been voiced. Though even the done-to-death romance genre has scope for plenty of lovely stories, Bollywood-style chick lit is what seems to be mass produced. Sad! I too hope the trend comes to an end and Indian literature continues to be as wonderful as it was in the past.

My problem is not just the genre but also the quality of the writing - sadly the stories are not able to grip - the conversations sag - and the writers just lose me a few pages into the book!

I so agree.! That is why read classics or stuff like the kind Amitav Ghosh writes.! Could not tolerate those college romanes cliched and copied into newer words doing the rounds.! Recently discovered a few off beat themes on the shelves. Seems a welcome change.! A very good topic for discussion.!

There was a major overdose of this Indian romance novels these past few years... and its sad really. There are so many genres available and some of these authors really do have the talent to hold your interest till the end - but they just couldn't see beyond the typical Bollywood college romance.
I would love to see an end to this trend - I would love to see a shift towards more mature themes, a variation from the chick-lit love stories.
