I think tweeting about your new blog post is the best way for indexing in Google. I generally use this technique after publishing my latest post and it can be found in latest results when I search my blog title.
Submitting blog to Webmasters tool is also the good way to track our keyword positioning and ranking.
Social networking and bookmarking sites have very good potential to send targeted traffic and nearly 60% of my blog traffic if from it. So becoming active on these sites is always beneficial.
And last if we consider the future then definitely SMO will beat the SEO because internet is becoming very talented and Google like sites will decide the rankings of posts depending on how many people are talking about that blog post on social sites etc in near future.
